This performance features new compositions utilizing water field recordings & video images, skirting the dichotomy between, and the confluence of human hands and nature.
OVERVIEW
Since 1983 Illusion Of Safety has been the ongoing project of Daniel Burke, working alone and with various collaborators. They have released over 20 CDs on labels such as Complacency, Die Stadt, Experimedia, Odd Size, Silent, Soleilmoon, Staalplaat, Tesco, and Waystyx, and played over three hundred concerts in Europe and North America. IOS' work has been called ambient, post-industrial, electro-acoustic, noise, sound collage, improvisation, and power electronics, but they are unwilling to limit their work to any given style or method. The sonic character and affective substance of the music will often shift abruptly within each recording and live performance.
Recent reviews:
In recent years Burke has settled on a more specific style of sound, which involves electronics, laptop and hand held objects attached with contact microphones. Pre-recorded sound material, mainly snippets from radio, TV an records, the 'field recordings' as well as electronic sounds are mixed with electro-acoustic objects in an extraordinary manner. This is the meeting point of many influences: improvised music, musique concrete, industrial music, microsound even, all in a highly intense set of music. Music that has a soundtrack like character. Never brutally loud - that station is past history luckily enough - but angular at times, flowing easily at others, playing with the notion of silence and loudness, and never strictly confined to laptop techniques, which firmly sets him aside of so many others.
FDW-Vital
CD release party for the Perdition Plastics re-issue of PROBE.
This is the first re-issue since its original appearance in 1992. In a small edition of 500, Perdition Plastics is proud to reintroduce this notable work of contemporary composition.
Veteran provocateurs ILLUSION OF SAFETY examine an audio landscape found between: youth and innocence; manufactured entertainment and suburban complacency.
Using a pastiche of field recordings and suggestively composed elements, Dan Burke and Jim O'Rourke strikingly capture ambivalence and their own personal interactions within this environment.

2 guitars No waiting. With influences as disparate as Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Robert Fripp, John Fahey, Steve Reich, Jimi Hendrix, This Heat, AMM, sex pistols, burt bacharach, throbbing gristle, brian eno, black sabbath, sonic youth, michael nyman, Slayer, Glenn Branca, Thomas Tallis,.....they present instrumental improvisation, minimal soundwork, in-depth cross genre composition, in a search for beauty and noise platform.
Since 2006, multi-instrumentalist Travis Bird has been active in several Chicago projects, currently including the psychedelic noise rock of the Leavitt Ours and the industrial-pastoral evocations of Dense Reduction.
Dense Reduction
the duo of Travis Bird and Evan Lindorff-Ellery draw inspiration both from the densely packed stimuli of Chicago and from the reductive landscapes of rural places. Incorporating diverse analog sound layers, musique concrete, and real-time musical performance, they pursue the evocation of industrial-pastoral sound environments. The tension between these extremes is expressed in both the dynamics of the music and the physicality of the performance. They incorporate the unique features of the cassette medium, releasing primarily on their own Notice Recordings label.
