IOS performs Dead Tech

In 1981, Mitch Enderle was the first collaborator with Dan Burke recording as Psychotic Dub, which later became Illusion Of Safety. In 1985 Mitch released a cassette on Complacency called Dead Tech. This work was Industrial music described as "noise like it used to be", featuring distorted drum machine, loops, samples, synth, guitar, and vocals very similar to early SPK, Nocturnal Emission, and Test Department. For this performance longtime collaborators Mitch and Dan will be recreating some of this material for a one off performance at Enemy.

Sound Choice Review:
This is some pretty frightening stuff, about as industrial as it gets. The working technique is largely based on samples and the use of loops to provide structure and rhythm. These loops are maniacal in tone, well chosen and combined to present a truly disturbing image that allows no room for escape. The competency of this band's groups of found vocals is above reproach, as is there generation of rhythms. Added to this is some of the most bent synthesizer and guitar manipulations that I have heard to date. These are some of the most powerful works in the exploration of such deviant realms that I have heard, comparable to the best bands of its kind. If you like Maybe Mental or Test Department, IOS/Dead Tech is your ticket to hell. (Complacency)--Nathan Griffith

June 21 - Chicago - A night of noise, drone, feedback, and power-electronics

BloodLust! and Enemy present a night of harsh noise, minimalist drone, feedback, and power-electronics

Boston harsh noise artist Karlheinz will return to Chicago on Saturday June 21, to play his first show here in three years. For this Midwestern trek, he has assembled a crack team of East Coast electronic music comrades, ranging from the deep and minimal drone of Silvum (formerly of Champaign, IL, now of Fairfax, VA), to the vicious power-electronics of Boston trio, Sharpwaist, to the nihilistic and dark Stillbirth, also from Boston. At their Chicago stop, Mark Solotroff (of BLOODYMINDED, The Fortieth Day, and Animal Law) will perform a feedback and vocal set, simply utilizing a clutch of microphones.

Sat June 28 - Noise and Drone with New Pledgemaster and Evenings from Michigan

New Pledgemaster (AKA Paul Gunsberg, AKA P.E. Paul) is part of the new breed of greater Detroit area noisemakers that has developed with the close support of the Wolf Eyes family. Among his notable collaborations are Crosse Humiliation, with Greh Holger of Hive Mind, and the bizarre, horror noise troupe, The Jasons, with Tovah Olson of Dead Machines and Dan Dlugosielski from Haunted Castle and Uneven Universe. For this show, Gunsberg is expected to unleash a vitriolic spew of unhinged, raw power-electronics

Evenings is one Miles Haney, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, the proprietor of the Tapeworm Tapes label and the tiny but vital basement concert venue, The Red Room. Audience members can expect suitably subterranean rumble and distortion, located somewhere between dense ambiance and harsh noise.

Jason Soliday (Animal Law, I Love Presets, Mora, Behold! The Living Corpse) and Mark Solotroff (Animal Law, BLOODYMINDED, The Fortieth Day, Super Eight Loop, A Vague Disquiet, ex-Intrinsic Action), who had a double-CD-R release on the Chicago label, Whitechapel, in 2007, continue to explore their blend of nuanced-yet-heavy electronic composition and primitive, harsh feedback.

Chicago's Winters In Osaka, who just returned from jet-setting shows in Mexico and China, have a scorching new CD, "Red Tooth, Red Claw," on Power Silence.

If the track on their MySpace page is any indication, Ashville, North Carolina's Quetzalcoatl will likely bring down the roof with their monolithic doom-drone, which should appeal to fans of early Earth records, Boris, Sunn O))), Moss, etc.

04.11.08 - Craig Baldwin . I<3Presets

Call it a free-for-all: a carnival of intellectual freedom.
This Friday, April 11th, one day following the sneak-peak
world premiere of his new film Mock up on Mu at the Gene
Siskel Film Center, agitprop cut-up master Craig Baldwin will
play tag with hacker supremes Jon Cates and I Milwaukee Ave.
3rd FL – a half block southeast of the Damen Blueline Stop).
This really will be a situation you won’t want to miss!

The first part of this double-header is a program of guerilla
theatre video documentation, newscast cut-ups, and other misc.
acts of takin’ it to the man – a video series called Blows
Against the Empire (no, not the Jefferson Starship album – but
still conceptual nonetheless) presented by our guest Agent Baldwin.

But that’s not all, as if a talk by Baldwin and a screening of
Blows isn’t enough to make you rally against the neo-cons,
corporations, and the subtle advancement of neo-liberal
globalization. Jon Cates will climb out from underneath his
tenure-track paperwork and step up to the mic. to introduce the
conceptual audio/video trio I Love Presets. DIY Chicago hacker
and circuit-breakers that are part of the ever-evolving
culture-jamming movement.

Situations like these usually spring people into action. For
that reason, I would expect a number of people to interact with
the program. Several people have already mentioned they’d like
to announce upcoming cultural interventions of some sort or another.
If you have something to announce or plan of action, this is the
type of gathering you’d find support for your project. And remember,
internationally renowned artists are supposed to paint over billboards,
remix and rebroadcast newscasts, hack radio waves and mainframes,
it’s a social responsibility.

This event starts at 8pm. And, it’s about sharing, so bring snacks
or beverages (the good kind). There will be a $5 suggested donation
– people have to pay the bills, but no one will be turned away.
Besides, it’s still half the price you’d pay to see the premiere of
Street Kings at the multi-plex.

Squid Fist - Transmission write-up

Maniacs on the prowl in Wicker Park

More madness at Enemy (1550 N. Milwaukee, 3rd Floor) this Saturday, as three totally parabolic nightmare-walkers stalk your sleeping hours with fogs of dissonance and hilarity.

Blood Waterfall, according to their Myspace page, sound like "Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore, and Zach Hill watching commercials," and invoke the Luttenbachers, Braxton, Brotzmann and Melt-Banana in their "influences" section. Believe it or not, that actually pretty much nails it.

Sexual Freedom, formerly known as Gays in the Military, burst free from their shackles once again to thug up the ears and pass around some of the generous helpings of kinky theatricality that has left Wicker Park in awe since the halcyon days of the Big Horse. Swoon....

Squid Fist are from Minneapolis, and seem to live in a Black Metal cave while foraging in noise trashcans for tender morsels. Thrashing and clattering, squirming and squeaking, a 2001-esque new-rebirth-style space baby is being born on this very stage for you.

Jason Soliday (Enemy's host and resident) and Anthony Decanini will open. I've heard Soliday many times, but not with Mr. Decanini, so this promises to be a new and different direction. Try it, you'll like it! 8 p.m. sharp, $5.
